Washington, DC, resident, Candido Brown, began his career in education in 2005. As director of operations for Ascend Public Charter Schools in 2021 and 2022, Candido Brown of Washington, DC, oversaw a four-person team responsible for running the school. He also worked with the principal to reach operational management-related objectives.
Mr. Brown’s career in education began with a position as a summer schoolteacher for the Teach Baltimore Program in 2005, where he taught reading and writing to students from low-income neighborhoods. He also worked as a public relations office associate for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at Johns Hopkins University.
Mr. Brown then became the manager of literacy for the Office of Engagement for Boston Public Schools. In this role, he worked with the director to recruit, hire, and train literary associates who worked with various schools in literacy programs and in project management roles. While working with Boston Public Schools, he also was a donor relations manager for Harvard University, where he raised money for the school.
By 2014, Mr. Brown moved to Achievement Prep Charter Schools, where he was principal-in-residence. He was also an adjunct professor in elementary education at Touro College’s College of Education. After working at a charter school in New York City, Mr. Brown founded and was a principal consultant at BetterEd Solutions, a firm focused on school leaders and teacher training.
